Maybe in the 20s with Calvin Coolidge, be we all know what happened as a result of the careless and greedy financial practices the repubs had. They sent us into a 10 year depression beginning in 1929.

Never has and never will. They do not listen to the people, they only listen to the money mill. I have been through several years on the US soil and I must say when the republicans are in the white house the people suffer needlessly, If the democrates are in there we prosper from the bottom up instead on of the top and no further down. Trickle down and a thousand points of light just were a bunch of words to get people into a second term of office. They were never a reality at all.

The answer to that might be in examining the Carter Administration. Under Carter, most people could not afford to buy a home. Inflation was double digit as was unemployment. Carter tried to balance the budget by inflating the economy and pushing people into higher tax brackets but succeeded only in destroying the purchasing power of the dollar. Ronald Reagan changed all that. He cut taxes, put a stop to printing money and put the economy back on track. Inflation fell investment restarted

Acutally, yes. Suprisingly enough, the republican party used to support the working class landowner way before the abolition of slavery. Of course, during that time, the middle class land-owners were of course slave owners. The republicans did actually want to see these tenant farmers, slave owners landlords gain prosperity. The democrats wanted to expand capital through manufacturing and and corporations. The acted as today's republican and the republicans then acted as today's democrat. Ironic isn't. Just lets you know how flaky our government can truly be. Wait a few more decades and see what it turns into then. But to answer your question, Lincoln was a republican and the middle class of his time (slaveowners) never prospered!!!!

Let's put it this way. Do you think a Republican will subsidize public transportation or do you think he will subsidize Lockheed? The last two economic (and it looks like the third) happened in America while we had a Republican adminstration.
I came back to add: Lincoln LEFT the Republican Party to win his 2nd term in office. He was the first elected Republican. The party intially got started to prevent any Roman Catholic from attaining office. (I just couldn't believe one other posting on this question and had to comment off the subject).

Yes, when Ronnie Raygun was in office. Actually, the middle class usually does it's growing when Republicans are in office, Democrats do everything they possibly can to screw it up. Democrats shrink the middle class by overtaxing them and re-distributing their wealth to the lazy ignorant poor people, because Democrats don't believe in personal responsibility, only a level playing field.
