I know first hand that the answer to that is NO! I know I did not have a clue that my first husband was such a monster until, literally, the day I married him. A beating was my wedding gift. Nice huh??? It lasted 5 months to the day before I found out how to get out and DID! It's 12 years later and the SOB is STILL in prison! I got out and FOUGHT BACK!!! Had I KNOWN, I never would have gotten with him in the first place. He did not do it to his first wife so there was no reason to think he would to me. Sometimes, you just do not know! if it is happening to you, GET OUT! You can! Call police and they will remove you and take you somewhere safe. A shelter where he will never find you. I've been in one and know how safe they are. He would never find you! Good luck but PLEASE GET OUT! best wishes and all the luck in the world!

There has to be some indication in a relationship prior to marriage that a partner is abusive. There are tall tale signs that indicate one temper may not be in control. Unless you marry someone straight from the net without being with them for a while, you should be able to pick up on these signs.

In some cases they probably do; however, the majority of them they do not. Once an abuser "gets the papers," they consider their spouse to be property and are able to treat them the any way that they wish to.

I would think that they could suspect some redflags when dealing in a relationship, otherise, there is a first time for everything... so maybe a person wasn't violent in the dating stage and then after marriage decided to be violent, then there is noway they would know..

No, you dont always know. I know by experience. I have been married for 4 years. Our problems started after we were married. Unfortunately it took me having him arrested and a order of protection to make him realize what he was doing. He is in counseling and on meds to help him. After his counseling we will start marriage counseling.

I wish you the best of luck. Seek help immediately!!!

Not usually, there may be small signs in the beginning of dating, engagement, etc., but you dismiss it. Red flags should go up when your boyfriend/girlfriend (yes, men get abused by women too) starts verbally abusing you. That's usually the start. Then comes the physical abuse usually after the marriage. If you are getting abused, please get help. God Bless and Good Luck.
