Take it back to the person who owed you the money. I have a blank check sitting in my dresser for a down payment on a car a couple bought they never filled in the amount. And I will never use it. They ended up sending me a money order for the full amount of the car. But said they don't want the check back. Strange very strange lol

Since the check is for you anyway, ethically, you fill in the amount that was owed to you.

1.) send it back to the person who sent it to you and let them issue you another one, but with the right amount next time.

You call the person and tell them. I work in a credit union and trust me, you can get in a hell of a lot of trouble for check forgery. And as for some above answers, unfortunatly what is "ethical" to you, is not a correct defense in a court of law.

I would draw a line through each entry so no one can fill it in then send it back. If it is a sales gimmic and if you endorse it you might be getting yourself into a financial commitment you dont know anything about. SEND IT BACK!!

Call up the person, ask them how much they meant to write down, ask them if it's OK to write it in, and if they say OK, then do it. If not, send it back and let them do it.
