why is whistling at a women considered disrespectful?

Because you don't whistle at women like they're nothing but sexual objects or dogs. Especially the wolf-whistle cuz it usually means they like you for your body only. Some women like it cuz they feel it means someone thinks they're attractive and sexy. Others hate it for the reason above.

Hmm!...Good question, I myself being female, and this is only my opinion, because I too find it to be a out-of-date, for lack of a better word! I think it's because women are so independant now and have come such a long way to accomplish all that we have, and to be view or still looked at as just a piece of meat, if you would or to be whistled at like an animal, is somewhat demeaning. Although there are still a few women that don't mind a man whistling, but your chances are better and more appreciated if you simply just say, Hi!

Because it shows you consider them as an object. You are not paying them any respect if you whistle after them without ever meeting them. However, some women like it, so whatever.

Because it basically means that the guy is after one thing or is whistling due to the fact that her beauty surpasses those that are around her or other girls that they've seen, etc.

And some women just don't like to be seen as objects. (Which is true in many cases)
