I have seen "swamp coolers" but I want an actual transportable air conditioner that doesn't require external venting (temporarily). Is this possible?

I believe there is a portable air conditioner that has it's own vent line designed to work with existing windows. I don't think it would be efficient to have an a/c without some sort of vent to dispose of the heat.

No, but there are portable water coolers that blow air thru water absorbed filters. There are air conditioners that can be vented out a window the has a panel placed in it with a hole for the AC.

I believe you can find these at Wal-Mart or those types of places. I do not think that they cool quite as well as a window unit, but they do provide circulating cooler air.
