Please help! We were sitting in the pub the other day when somehow talk turned to a scam involving bananas!
We all had a vague recollection that a guy went into a supermarket some time ago and realised that due to a quirk in a special offer they had on he could get free bananas from the supermarket! We seem to remember that he ended up filling his car boot with bananas as the supermarket couldnt withdraw the offer. They may have even ended up paying him for them.
Does anyone know anything about this. It was on the national news but we cant remember exactly when. Maybe a few years back?

I remember it being Tesco clubcard points; this bloke realised he could earn so many points he'd end up being able to pay for a plane ticket. The supermarket didn't expect anyone to buy 500lb of bananas which is why they offered triple points on them.
He sold the bananas as well. It wasn't a scam though.

The mans name was Phil Calcott 3 pounds of bananas were priced at £1.17p and came with 25 Tesco club card points worth £1.25p Making 8P profit per bunch.
He gave away all the bananas to the homeless, schools and passers-by. He kept two bunches and made £25.12p.

It was about 8 years ago. The supermarkets have since imposed conditions on their offers, limiting the number each customer can take advantage of.

Don't know about bananas but have read articles on getting points for buying something and a guy realized he could buy loads of the product and get his points in airmiles and save a fortune.

yea vaguely remember this it was something to do with a lolalty card the guy cleaned out the shop and mader abundle as well try looking in newspaper archives on web

yea, now you mention it I do remember, I think it was richard and judy when they were on ITV in the morning (before we all had pcs) but you may beable to look it up somewhere on internet
