I just did and I feel terrible. Fortunately, it's not obvious-the coffee spilt on the bottom of the books and their pages are yellow, not white-but I still feel awful. Could you please say something to make me feel better? P.S. These books were given to me while studying at university.

There is nothing like the smell of an old book. Yellowed pages that are scarred and stained ... dogeared and torn. There's a smell of warm must and sickeningly sweet age. It can't be found in a Barnes and Nobel, although I do love the store ... it's found in the basement of Gramma's house ... the back of the library ... the used bookstore downtown. It's the signs of something that's been used over and over again ... creased spines mean reading and rereading over the years. Spills and stains means that the book has traveled and experienced life. The perfect book in the corner without a bend or tear or stain has led a sad life on the shelf.

If they were gifts expense should not matter. It is the sentiment. I love books.Damaging any is something that irks me. However I remind myself that books are all inanimate objects and can be repaired or replaced. Coffee and books can be a dangerous combo though. Use this as a learning experience and remember not to have food or beverages by your books next time. I hope you did not burn yourself.
Once I had a huge cup of coffee in a car that my friend was driving. The coffe was too hot to drink and I was still too tired to think. My friend jokingly suggested that I stick the coffee out the window to cool it down. Still groggy, I did exactly that! It was awful! The wind blew the coffee out of the cup, back into the passenger's window! All over my brand new white rayon button up shirt with elaborate collar! I was wide awake after that!

I would feel grateful that I didn't spill it on myself and cause a nasty burn!
Seriously though - loved books will stay loved. If you spilt coffee on them at least they are round and about you and not stuffed on a shelf gathering dust somewhere - I am sure your books will understand how awful you feel.
If they were given to you by someone who may be upset that the books now have coffee on them - perhaps you could replace them through insurance?
I do hope that both you and your books recover from this experience - life would be boring if we didn't take some knocks along the way....helps us to appreciate the good times!

Yestyerday I had to go for an interview. On the way i stopped for a coffee and spil some on the front of my shirt. So i thought I would buy another with one hour to spare. I bought one quickly and with twenty minutes left put it on. It was short sleeved.! This interview required the full shirt and tie affair. Yes I did not get the job. But I will always remember that coffee!

I'm sorry you spilled coffee on your books; that would make me feel distressed as well. Just remember that the world won't end because your books got a little damaged and as long as you can still use them, you shouldn't worry too much. I spill things all of the time, so don't feel bad; you're not the only one who does it!

I would pour more coffee over it ....
and with a few touches it could turn into an antique ...that is what I did when I wanted a white piece of paper look like an old parchment letter .... and hey ..maybe the author needed a wake up call ..LOL

I'm sure your books will forgive you for spilling coffee on them. It could have been worse, could have been nail polish remover or something dastardly like that. Cheer up and have a hug and some smiles from a fellow bookie:):):):) oh and a X just in case this has not worked!

Every time, when you open the book and read it in a warm sunny day, you will be blessed with the coffee aroma. Enjoy!
