Three parties dominate politics in the House of Commons. They all operate throughout Great Britain (only the Conservative Party stands candidates in Northern Ireland). Most of the British Members of the European Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, and the National Assembly for Wales represent one of these parties:
Labour Party, centre-right to left-wing (traditionally left-wing) (355 seats in the House of Commons)
Co-operative Party (all Co-operative Party MPs are also Labour MPs as part of a long-standing electoral agreement)
Conservative Party, centrist to centre-right (traditionally centre-right) (198 seats)
Liberal Democrats, centrist to centre-left. (63 seats)
There are several other minor parties, literally hundreds and the various Scottish and Welsh ones too.
The present government is led by Tony Blair who has presided over a very poor Labour government beset by scandals and ineptitude when compared with previous ones. In a recent poll 87% of those taking part thought he was the worst Prime Minister ever and 83% thought he was the worst Labour leader. I tend to agree,

Find the relevant party's web site to establish their platform. Main parts of government are the party in power, which will be made up of Cabinet members and backbenchers (those without a role) and the oppositions which also has a Shadow Cabinet. This is house of Commons. Other main part is House of Lords which has a role to play in the passing of laws

The labour party under Blair has ditched all its root policies and traditions. The Tory party under Dave has ditched all its root policies and traditions. The liberal party has not had either to worry about. The members of UKIP want out of Europe ( The best policy around). BNP want to reinstate Britain as the place for the British. The Nationalist parties want all our money but don't want us to interfere with their running. If you look at them all we the people are not the reason for them being there only to supply big wages and pensions for the chosen few. They are all power mad and don't really give a dam about us. So take your pick they will all screw us in the end.

Ummm....there's only one party in (Westminster) government. That's New Labour. Its policies are 1. introduce a minimum wage 2. give more money to National Health Service staff 3. do some other stuff very badly.
The two main opposition parties are 1. Conservatives (formerly rednecks, but now Old Labour...but they don't accept it) 2. Liberal Democrats (tax the rich.....no, wait, dont tax the rich).
