I will be studying in Montreal area and need to know where I can get winter clothes there relatively cheaply. Also, I'm from a tropical country so any suggestions on what I should get? Any help would be appreciated!!

If you'll only be there for one winter, get used clothes (sweaters and a parka) from Renaissance Montreal up north of downtown (can't remember exactly where). You'll want new boots though, that's where you should put your money. Any shoestore will sell them starting in September or October. Thermal lined gloves! A nice big scarf and a hat. Those are hard to find used (other than maybe a hat) but there's nothing wrong with them if you do. And there's nothing wrong with wearing long underwear either--just don't start until it gets below -15 or you'll be one of those tropical people who don't make it past December.

It's been ages since I've been to Montreal (around the time the Big O was built). But if I remember correctly, there are a lot of second-hand clothing stores to choose from that sell 'almost new' stuff at really cheap prices. If you're really strapped for cash, go to a church, they may be able to help you out. Winters get very cold, bundle up with wool sweaters (you may even need them indoors too - depending where you are), thick woolly socks, warm boots, ski jacket or parka, hat, gloves and scarf. Sorry I couldn't be a better help on where to get these items, but you shouldn't have a problem finding them when you get there. I just wanted to be one of the first to say "Welcome to Canada!", I hope your stay is a pleasant one. Montreal is a beautiful city, you're lucky to be going there.

any store should have winter clothes, but not yet as it's too early in the year. Get a down filled coat if you can, it's warm and light. You'll need warm boots, mitts or gloves, hat and scarf. You should also get yourself some sweaters and a lighter jacket for warmer days. Make sure your boots have a good tread for traction on ice and snow. A second-hand store should have some good stuff for you. PS....I am Canadian

It's the middle of summer! No one is selling winter clothes. But in the fall just go to ANY mall.
