Use caution if you're tempted to try some techniques at home to get labor started. None of the following methods have been proven to be consistently effective, and some aren't safe to try on your own:
• Having sex won't induce labor, but the prostaglandin in semen and having an orgasm may stimulate some contractions.
• Stimulating your nipples releases oxytocin, which may start labor but can also result in long contractions that put stress on your baby — so don't attempt this at home.
• Castor oil is a strong laxative that can stimulate your bowels. There's no proof that it helps induce labor though plenty of women can attest to its unpleasant effects! Talk about the pros and cons with your practitioner.
• Herbal remedies for labor haven't been proved safe and effective, and a few are known to be downright dangerous. Ask your doctor or midwife before doing or taking anything to stimulate labor contractions.
Meanwhile — while you're waiting for labor to begin — be sure to pay close attention to your baby's movements and let your practitioner know right away if there's a decrease in activity.

Sadly, I tried almost everything you can find on the matter and still didn't go into labor until the morning of my induction. Really, 4 hours before I was scheduled to be induced I went into labor. Ironic, huh? Walking, sex, Evening Primrose Oil in both places, pregnancy tea... I even had my membranes stripped. Aside from having my membranes stripped by my doctor, I started all of this stuff at 37 weeks, since it's all supposed to take time to work. Well, the walking and sex I was doing beforehand. Nada. Absolutely nothing. Not even false labor. I tried nipple stimulation too, but you're supposed to alternate nipples for like, two or three hours. If you have the time you can give it a try, but I was done after 30 minutes. I'm also ADHD, so I probably just couldn't keep my attention on it.

Try any of the following:
* Nipple stimulation releases oxytocin which triggers labor
* Intercourse in which the semen is deposited right up at the cervix (Do NOT do this if your water broke!)
* Nasal drops with oxytocin
* Spicy foods
* Accupressure about 3 fingers up from the inner ankle
* Accupressure between the thumb and forefinger
* Walking (this is the dumbest one, because who has the strength to waddle around?!)
I know it's a really pain to wait for baby to arrive. Been there, done that, 3 times. Each time I was over a week late. Nothing worked for me except spicy foods (first birth only).
Good luck!

Ok you can go on-line and find a tun of info on it. There are teas that help, and also positions and exercises you can do to start the process. Also, take a nice long warm bath,that helps soften things up down there and will help you loose your mucus plug if you haven't already. And there is always the old stand by, sex. ( I'm not kidding, but don't if your doc. told you not to!) Hope this helped!

You don't want to "induce" labor. That can be extremely dangerous to both you and the kid. There's really nothing you can do but wait it out and MAYBE talk to your doctor. The baby will come when he/she is ready.

my friend broke her own water while sitting on the toilet. She just reached up with her finger nail and popped it. Although, I really wouldn't suggest you do this cuz of the risk of infection.
