Im looking for books similiar to Cold Mountain with that mountain feel to it. Also, I just finished reading Pride and Predjudice, what are some books similiar to that?

To KX250F:, did you just read that in your high school literature class? I didn't think I was bragging, I was just asking about good books, which To Kill a Mockingbird, when I did read it, has nothing to do with mountain life or a love story. Thanks anyway.

Cold Mountain is good - though there are not many books I have found that are quite like it.
If you are looking for something that is kind of similar to both books (melancholy and romantic/historical), I would suggest Tess of the d'Urbervilles, by Thomas Hardy. It is a phenomenal book - it is the quite melancholy story of a girl who encounters many of life's hardships and few of it's joys. It takes place in the English countryside, oh about 130 years ago.
Two other very melancholy books about heroines who never quite are would be Wicked by Gregory Maguire, and She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. Also Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Wuthering Heights is good, if you go for that time frame, and I have heard Sense&Sensibility is good (also by Austen, as is Emma), Persuasion, and some other 'lesser' works. You might also like some Louisa May Alcott and Lucy Maude Montgomery works.
Happy reading!

I have not read Cold Mountain, so my recommendations are based on Pride & Prejudice.
Classic books featuring romance or love...
Evelina by Frances "Fanny" Burney is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it.
Other Jane Austen books are good reads too, my favorite besides P&P is Persuasion. But most of her books are good.
Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell is a good romance.
The only book I know that was set in the mountains...and also a love story...is Christy by Catherine Marshall. It's about a young girl who goes to the Appalacian mountains to teach school at a mission home/school.

Try a Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, (I loved that one)
Gone with the Wind by Margret Mitchell
Jane Eyre by Charloette Bronte
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Oh and I would reccomend anything by Nicholas Sparks. He's a great author, try The Notebook or Message in a Bottle, or A Walk to Remember or A Bend in the Road....

"Forever Amber" is a good book similar to Pride and Predjudice (takes place in somewhat the same era) and is funny.
I can't think of any mountain feel books.

I haven't read "Cold Mountain" or "Pride and Prejudice" but I recently really, really enjoyed "Rebecca" by Daphne DuMaurier. I couldn't put it down, what a well-written classic!

A friend of mine writes mysteries from personal experience. She writes fiction, but it is based on something that really happened.
Read Tainted Town, by Evora Jordan.

I'd keep on with Jane Austen. Try Persuasion next.
