you can move data to the external simply by dragging and dropping. However, in the case of programs, they usually need to be installed on that drive to work properly. There are some exceptions, some simple programs that do not rely heavily on OS libraries can sometimes function after being copied, but most cant.

u cant really move programs.
u would need to unistall the programs and reinstall them, and change the drive letter to install the files to eg the external storage device it will still install files to other locations eg c:\program files and your windows folders.
best idea is to use it only for storages of files eg movies, mp3, documents etc

One option you have is that "some" programs will allow you to install them on your choice of drives (other than C).
So, you could reinstall some programs you already have installed on C:, then run them to make SURE they work, then UNinstall them off your C: drive

you can't just "move" programs that you have installed. When you install a program, so many registry and system changes are made that it is near impossible.
As far as files? Such as photos, music, etc? Just drag and drop!

you do no longer could desire to try this, as a results of fact Defrag defragments data, no longer in basic terms empty area. So there is somewhat no benefit to doing that. while you're working any courses in software data, it won't even provide help to progression this technique data folder. probability is, you have a software or 2 that runs each and every of the time as slightly icon on your taskbar close to the time reveal. shifting software data temporarily won't somewhat do something catastrophic in spite of the indisputable fact that, as a results of fact it in basic terms includes applications and video games, no longer drivers or working gadget data.
