The "active" ingredients, such as soy protein, vitamin E and A, etc, have been clinically shown to smooth out skin tone and blemishes. It depends on what specifically you're trying to achieve. Are you trying to minimize a scar? Reduce redness? Or just smooth out skin tone and texture in general? Often, the vitamins and proteins are cheaper purchased separately. I'm not trying to bash Aveeno, they truly sell a quality product, but I find that I'm sensitive to something in some of their formulas, even though they're supposed to be (and in general, live up to it) good for people with skin allergies. In general, they are on top of the competitors and sell a very high quality product for a reasonable price. I've seen them recommended over clinique, aveda and such day in and day out when it comes to quality and cost. No doctor has ever recommended Clinique or Aveda to me. Several doctors and dermatologists that I have gone to stand behind Aveeno. The other top recommended by doctors to me has been Neutrogina.
From my personal experience with their products that I'm not sensitive to, they aren't overly greasy or oily, they absorb quickly, they smell pleasant and they do as advertised.
To fade scars, just buy the store brand vitamin E lotion and apply it directly to the scars (I use CVS brand myself). Most of them are light enough to even wear under make-up without making your face seem oily. I have a scar on my face from a wicked witch step mother that I had to treat with vitamin E, sunscreen and soy to make it as minimally noticeable as it is. (I haven't been able to notice it without LOOKING for it for almost 4 months, even when I'm not wearing any makeup. The original injury happened in late January. The only time it's visible is if I've been crying)
Two months turn around isn't a horrible amount of time, but I started care immediately after the injury to the point where the injury is no longer visible. I still dab sunscreen on the scar to prevent it from getting too red. Your scars may take longer to fade if they're older.
Mederma, albeit pricey, is also good for scars. I have an old surgery scar on my back that it helped significantly. The only thing I didn't like about Mederma is it has a really strange texture when you're applying the gel, but putting up with the texture was worth the result it provided. I'm not sure how to describe how it feels.

My daughter gets really itchy and scratches little bumps which makes her have all these sores. She has had it for afew years now and tends to be at its worse when she is taking swimming lessons. From the chlorine I suspect. Anyhow, I have been to dermatologists and they say she will out grow it and can't give me anything to help her now. So I started using Aveeno. It has controlled her itching and has even helped clear up ther rash. So I would say yes. I buy the small tube of Anti-Itch cream, I find it works much better than the lotion or bath products, which didn't seem to work for her.
Honestly I don't know how it will work for you. You want something to help with your acne it sounds. Well most people that use Aveeno have itching of some sort and the natural colloidal oatmeal in it helps. I would recommend you try the new line that is available through the pharmacist. I think it is called Face Doctor and is highly recommended. Not sure on the price though.

I favor Neutrogena over Aveeno. I have oily skin and Neutrogena tends to keep it under control. Look into Cetaphil face cleanser. That's a pretty mild face wash and doesn't make skin feel dry and tight.

No. It is really oily. You need something that will smooth out blemishes the best thing that I have used and found to be really helpful was Suave. It is really cheap and helps me a lot. I usually use the oatmeal or the aloe one. They are great!
