Because they're not paying for the war either, but running it up on a credit card. This is the same situation that led to the collapse of the French regime and caused the French Revolution and its reign of terror. Instead of giving us the Statue of Liberty, which represents cheap-labor immigrant scabs, the French should have given us the guillotine.

I am a conservative; I believe in low taxes, and a strong military. There are many things in this country that the government has stepped in and regulated, and quite frankly they screwed up. An economy can not thrive to full efficiency under political regulations like minimum wage, and rent control. This may sound as if I am insensitive but the repercussions of both of these result in increases in poverty, and homelessness.Politicians use these issues to gain power, and raise taxes. The more this spreads the closer we move to socialism. And if you believe in that you probably will not care to hear rhyme or reason.

However there are just causes for each and every state to pay the federal government for services. Such as to protect us from the rest of the world in a collaborated effort. I would hate to see each state burdened with the responsibility. Our leaders in Washington DC have the intelligence to do the right thing. and if it is not in our best interest to go to war. I trust we will not. I do not know if "iraq war-25 million a day" is true but I am pretty sure that liberating Iraq will have an effect on the global economy for the better.

$25 million / day... comes to $9.125 billion per year. The federal budget is over -one hundred- times that size.

The problem isn't with a mere $25 million / day (which comes to less that 25 cents per day, btw, per capita). The problem is with everything else. We pay thru the nose for entitlement programs.

Military spending, contrary to what another poster wrote here, is nowhere NEAR half the federal budget. The largest federal expense is... drumroll please... DEBT PAYMENTS. Other huge chunks of the federal pie include Medicare / Medicaid and other entitlements. Check the budget sometime... you'd be appalled to find out we pay more each year for Medicare than we do for the war in Iraq.

Don't even get me started on the pork being doled out by politicians. How did Katrina happen? It wasn't FEMA. It wasn't Bush. It wasn't Kyoto. It was BILLIONS in mis-spent pork in Louisiana over the decades prior to the disaster. The levies could have been completely rebuilt and in good repair when Katrina hit but they weren't. Why? Because federal money was being allocated to useless endeavors to help out political donors. Disaster plans and emergency transportation could have been far more advanced, but they weren't either. Why? Because those same funds were abused.

It's not the costs of a questionable war that cause me to complain. It's the costs of a questionable bureaucracy which costs over 100 times as much and produces no results. If one terrorist decides to go to Iraq to blow himself up instead of the United States, then the Iraqi war serves a purpose, albeit a very questionable one. I see no purpose to the utter piracy taking place in the U.S. Congress these days.

I really hate over generalizations no matter who they are offending.

Everyone complains about taxes. Smaller less intrusive government is a major part of the platform for conservatives. This is not because they don't want to help people but conservatives believe that government burocracy tends to lead to waistful spending in these types of things and that the public would be better served by private organizations that could be setup to do the same thing.

As for the war, what do you believe we should have done. Sanctions didn't work, penalties from the UN didn't work, Diplomacy didn't work at what point do you stop talking and start taking action. Think about it in simpler terms how do you raise your kids. Do you just yell at them all the time but never take any action in the way of punishment. The kid will learn to tune you out and fight with you to get what they want all the time. Or do you try to discuss it with them but if they don't listen, then take some form of action. Teaching them boundaries.

It's basically the same thing.

But please do not over generalize like this. Not evey conservative is one way just like not every Liberal is one way.

The war is a good use of our tax dollars. The War on Terror will pay dividends in the future to generations who do not have to take on this evil menace. I dislike the way my tax dollars are spent on useless things - so many social programs that are wasteful boondoggles aimed at making people depend on the government.

david c - why do liberals love to use freedom of speech to knock down this great country? I would die to defend your right to spew hate about our President and this great land - and you and all liberals would pursue policies that would cede all of our rights and liberties to the government, so that we could end up like that lovely socialist utopia - the Soviet Union. Liberals hated Ronald Reagan - and he was able to end the Cold War which freed up a lot of our defense spending needs in the 90's - and you were all dumb enough to give Bill Clinton the credit for the prosperity of the 90's. Now George Bush is taking on terrorism in the same way Reagan took on communism.

You bill yourself as such an intellectual, why don't you do some HONEST research into history, and find out all the different ways that you have been stupid, mis-informed and just plain wrong about everything that you believe?

While the cost of war is astounding, it is unfortunately necessary. You have your freedom because of the dollars the US has spent on war, and the soldiers that did the fighting.
Democrats always complain that the rich get the tax breaks...well, doesn't it make sense that those who pay the most into the system get the most back? How much should someone on welfare get back in INCOME tax refunds? Just like the stock market...the more you buy, the bigger the payoff.
The cost of war is unavoidable, raising taxes on rich people just because they are rich is prejudicial. Maybe I should call the ACLU?

Almost half of our taxes go to the military anyways. What's another $25 million a day? No I'm not a conservative or liberal. If you're upset about the cost of war, why don't you go try to do something about it?

Conservatives do not complain about the cost of war because the cost is justifiable. The greater good served by waging these wars, the last being World War II, is unquestionable.

Idk approximately your numbers but it surely does not look out of line. But no, neither the Repubs or Dems wish to finish the "drug struggle." It could actually carry down an enterprise. There are humans whose livelihoods rely at the fiction that it's "winnable." And a few humans who wield a large quantity of vigour "combating" this "scourge." Can you assume the howls that could come from the ATF, DEA, FBI, and so forth., and so forth., if every have been all of a sudden to lose their bite of that money? Some of the manufacturing nations are honestly stylish on that money. In a few instances, it is the best leverage the US has over the ones countries. "We'll shoot a few billion your method in case you do as we are saying." It's an handy solution to impact overseas governments with out showing to dictate to them. Interdiction of medicines has taken a again seat to the politics of coins, which equals vigour. Just take a seem round any interior town discipline, does it seem to you just like the struggle is being received? At any price, it's not relevant how significant the numbers are, no one's getting their cash's valued at. They have slightly made a dent within the tonnage of dope getting throughout.

I complain about how my taxes are spent. Understand the the primary job of the government is to protect the citizens, so the money allotted to Military use is fine with me. The pork barrel spending, the over inflated perks for elected officials and welfare dollars spent from my pocket are my pet peeves.
