Like a sad lad venting his lust alone, it's in a guy's own hands. Or, to put it in a nicer way, the future is the ocean, your fate is the ship, and your hands are at the wheel. Neither thought is original, but they mean the same thing: You take charge, or somebody else will. "Your wheel is your will, your fate is your route. Take the right turns and arrive! Where you steer you'll go, And your choices will show-- But you'll never get out of this world alive!" (Now, that one was at least partly original, except for that last line, which was stolen from Hank Williams who probably stole it from somebody else. As Walt Whitman wrote, "These thoughts are not original with me." And, before I took American Literature 101, I thought the guy was honest! So it goes.

No body can take control over own life. Although people do show up like that all the time. I am in a show business and i meet people all the time like that.
Whatever has to happen will happen, no one can do anything about it. Only through our action (with a positive thinking) or Karma we can influence the fate a bit.
Self trust comes from self realisation and that is the only way to go on with life.

Life is a coincidence in the first place - what you do with it is up to you.
Some things will happen because of the choices other people make - but over some things you have control - saying it's down to fate is a cop out - like handing the responsibility onto someone else.

I think you have control over what happens to you UP-TO A POINT after that fate takes over. Strive to do what you can & leave the rest upto fate

I preface my answer by saying I am a Buddhist, and believe that there is a path to our lives but we do have choices. But unlike Christians, we think that this is part of the wheel (or cycle) of our soul, and in each incarnation, we gain merit or learn more lessons towards enlightenment. We never gain total control but for mundane worldly experiences, we can choose. It puzzles me that people taking of taking control of their lives...in what manner could they do this? By being a fatalist, you follow much in the path of the Buddhists and accept an order to your life.

There is no Fate, we are here to fulfil out our contract of life. we cannot change the outcome, but we can make it a more graceful journey, if we choose.
