yeah, i dont get how any parent can let their kid do the whole "prosti-tot" look. kids should be wearing sneakers and shirts with mickey mouse or spongebob or something. the worst are the families that put their daughters in those pageants when they're like 4. "she really wants to do it." BULL. or, maybe she does, but its only because its all you've taught her. sorry that you're a fat slob who nobody ever found attractive, but dressing your kid up like a whore isnt gonna make you any less of a worthless pile of crap.

It's not all America. It's just that when celebrities who kids look up to (not for the best reasons, either) dress in a certain way, girls think that they need to copy that style. Parents have a role in it, too. Some women dress inappropriately for their age and body-type. If a young girl sees her mom looking a certain way, then she's getting the message that it's okay. A girl's friends, of course, may also influence her. Parents need to put their foot down and stress to their daughter that the way she dresses will give people certain impressions, some good and some not so positive. It is the parent's role to teach the child what is expected of her and to stress that when she's old enough and has her own job and place, then she can do what she wants. But as long as she's still growing up and living at home, her parents are the ones who make decisions like not letting her look too mature (or slutty). Media of course has so much to do with the problem.

Because a human being is an animal first and only a mind and spirit if an individual learns to be a amind and a spirit. Sex and food are the only things an animal thinks about after personal safety. Businesses sell products to whoever has money. If monkeys have money, businesses will be happy to sell to them. As long as humans are willing to act like nothing more than sex-obsessed animals, there will be consumer products for sex-obsessed animals.
The other part of the answer is even more disturbing. The American diet and life-style leads to girls reaching sexual maturity much sooner than they should, meanwhile we don't teach kids what they need to know about sex and unintended teenage prgnancy is still an epidemic.
In the modern American point-of-view, the best part of a person's life is during the sexual years. You can be attractive and hip and popular while you are between 18 and 30. Before 18, you are waiting to be grown and preparing yourself to be attractive. After 30, you are too old to be sexy anymore, but you might live another 50 years as a social outcast or someone's nerdy parent or grandparent.
Yes, it is all sooooo wrong.
Boycott sexualized products and cartoon characters that are targeted at the pre-teen market, for one thing. Support sex education that tells about reproduction in real terms for another thing. Us sexual older people will have to take care of ourselves, but we owe our guidance to children who don't yet know what kind of world they are growing up in.

because sex sells. and that is the only thing that producers and buysers want to see. If you pick something up that has a homely looking girl with baggy jeans and clothes that dont match and coverr 100 percent of her body and place that next to a young thin girl wearing body jewelery and low pants and a tiny shirt with makeup and etc.... which one is going to get more attention.
its sick yes but 80 percent of america buys into it. I dont think its so much that the pop stars are doing it but where the H*** are these girls parents that i see walking around wearing a tanktop and cut off shorts that are five sizes too small..
if i had a daughter and she tried wearing that crap id yank her in the house by the hair.
Where are the morals of america going. When i was 15 it was no boys no makeup and no funny business. now parents are letting their children date at 12 and giving them 12 am curfews as long as they "promise to behave themselves"
And then wonder why they come home pregnant????
Duh?? it just makes me want to smack people for their stupidity ><

I think parents allow it because a lot of them were raised in the 80's which saw things come into style that were more sexy/revealing (think Madonna). Their parents most likely flipped out about this and they rebelled. Well now THEY are the parents and are allowing it since they don't want to be the "bad" parent who stops their kid from being "cool" and they just see it as a fad or pushing the limits of fashion. What they don't seem to realize is that it's actually hurting their kids and not empowering them.

As an American woman, I couldn't agree with you more! Thankfully, I have two boys, so I don't have to worry about this. Every time I go clothes shopping for them, I walk by the girls section and am appalled at what I see. Low rise pants with the word "Angel" embroidered across the rear end. Crop tops. Low cut tops, etc. And this is in the toddler/young girl section. What I'd like to know is who buys this garbage for their kids to wear??

It is our culture. It is the American way. We are a capitalistic society that is based upon the consumption of things. Sex sells things. If people don't buy stylish clothes, make-up, jewelry, body toning, diets, ED pills, and etc. our economy collapses. We view the Muslim view of women, dressed in long black garments with their heads and faces covered as a suppression of women's rights. Yet they view it as a part of their religion. Americans, and by the way I am one, view ourselves as a Christian nation, blessed by and under God. However, as you note, we are the worlds greatest consumers of things which are sold by ads not based on the quality of the product, but upon it's sex appeal. It sure does make you wonder.

Because we've lost all sense of propriety. Look at the moms strutting around town in their minskirts and bikinis.
We also try to make American kids into little versions of ourselves. We want them to live the life the life "we never had" so we buy them everything, give them adult clothes to wear, and set no limits.

Oh you're awesome for asking that!! I totally agree. When I walk through most department stores and see trashy clothes that I wouldn't even wear being in my 20's being sold for little girls, it makes me ill. There really are predators out there that notice little girls dressed like that and are attracted to them, and to ignore that is endangering our daughters. My little girl is only 1 but there is no way I will put her in something that could cause her harm, or to show off her body. No good mom will do that.

I, as an American, agree. 100%, and it angers me and troubles me too. We don't let our daughter (8 years old) wear half shirts or skimpy clothing, and we don't have slutty "Brat Dolls" nor do we allow her to wear makeup. And we are fairly liberal when it comes to childrearing. But, I will NOT let MTV or Hollywood dictate how our child will dress. That's my job. I am a parent. Not a best friend. My role is to raise my kids.
Good question, I am interested to see what others have to say.
