Never too late. Be prepared to convince a potential employer that you are willing to take a pay cut to be a "trainee". Nothing better than doing something you love, rather than something you have to. 56 is not old, unless you convince yourself it is!

You are entering the Third Age now and it's never too late. No career is set for life these days so what's the difference.
You've probably done a job you hate for the sake of family and stuff so you've paid your dues. Be good to yourself now.
We are more likely to regret the things we DON'T do.

Welcome to the club. We are getting a rather high membership. Not sure exactly what your question is, but I just wanted to let you know that myself and several hundred college graduates I work with in part time jobs are almost constantly trying to find a new job/career.

she is in her early 50's. go for it.
