How many bedrooms would you recommend? She has 3 girls and 2 boys. 2 of the girls are twins and 8 years old. Should they share a room? She wants this to be her and her husbands final purchase. (NO BUDGET YET) Any advice?

Buy the biggest they can afford.

Budget is really going to be the driving factor along with School district that they want to be in. After that my thought would be at least a 4 bedroom. But more importantly they will need at least 3 full bathrooms. 5 bedroom would be better and so on by will add price.

The oldest girl could have her own room, the twins a room, the two boys a room and one master bedroom for the parents.

The other thing that will be very important will also be room SIZE. A lot of houses can have the right number of rooms but the rooms can be very very small. They will need to look for a house that has large room sizes to allow for the kids to double up in one room. Up / Down bunk beds will probably be a serious option for them to consider.

Best of luck to them.

I would buy a 5 bedroom house.
1 for the twins,
1 for the other girl,
1 for each of the boys,
and 1 for herself and her husband. Not sharing a room is going to save a lot of arguments among the kids. I found that out after I got my own bedroom away from my sister(we were sleeping in a bunk bed at the time.)

You've gotten good advice so far, and I concur that a 4 or 5 bedroom house would be the best, but to check the size of the rooms. One option, however, would be to buy a house with a basement that could be used as a room. We did this when I was a kid; the basement was nice and roomy and could easily house two kids. The twins could share that room and the other three could each have their own room, if possible.

I think a 4 bedroom would be comfortable.

The twins would share a room, and the 2 boys as well. As the kids grow, rooms can be re-allocated - when one leave for college, and so on. Buying bigger would get unconfortable in 10 years max, when it will feel too big.

She will probably need to relocate anyway as an empty nester... the house will feel huge.

Lets remember that space is a luxury, and a large family must be able to share - otherwise, why to have a large family???? the priority should be in space that is modulable, allowing for successive needs, and not on the "as is" situation. A house with lots of nooks and crannies, with small spaces for each kid to stay alone if whished, would work better than a huge one (that will also imply TONS of housework).

I would say get a 6 bedroom home if they can afford it. I have 3 kids and my two oldest (girls) share a bedroom. They are only 22 months apart but they hate sharing a room. I wish now that I could afford to get a 4 bedroom house, so, they could each have their own room.

i'd say 4 bedrooms based on the little info given. the twins can share a room, the 2 boys can (assuming their ages are close), and the other girl can have her own room.

7th Heaven continues (jk). umm- i think that they sould buy a house that sutes them. if the twin girls dont mind sharing a room then let them share a room. if the boys wantto share a room let then share a room. if the do not want to share a room you shouldnt make them everybody needs their space and when you dont have it you tend to spend less time at home with your family and more time with your friends. i mean one day the kids will grow-up and live their own lives but if they are all close in age then they are going to be with each other for a very long time. if they are at least 7 years apart i think they can mange with sharing until the oldest moves out.
