I think it depends on the mother in question and whether or not they're expecting their daughters to meet royalty. Personally if I had a daughter I would tell her to treat everybody equally, with respect but not with deference.

My mother taught me to curtsy when I was 6 years old, a couple of months before I was to meet Queen Elizabeth. I would do the same for my daughter if she gets a chance to meet royalty.

Americans don't curtsy to Royals.I went to a private schools where I did learn some social niceties and curtsies were practiced;debutantes execute curtsies at their debut.Only those people of a certain social status learn how to execute a proper curtsy or bow;parents do not show their children how to because it's learned in school or extra-curricular etiquette classes.

Actually in my family I learned to curtsy infront of some adults. My grandfather was a judge so when we met with politcal people I did... that was untill I was 5. It wasnt cute after that, and I tihnk thats why my mother taught me to do it. It was just a way of her trying to show the world what a sweet little girl she had.

I would never expect my daughter to curtsy to anyone. No-one is of 'higher rank' we're all equal, Some may be richer and better educated or privileged but this is no reason for those less fortunate to bow and scrape before them.

I don't know of any. Little kids will get shown how to curtsy the queen/royalty if they're doing a visit but the UK society isn't really set-up that way any more!

no, although the UK is still a very classist country, they try to hide it as much as possible. Although you would curtsy/bow when meeting the Queen.

I hope not. Not in NA, usually. but mothers still teach children to respect ladies of higher status.
the whole "status" thing annoys me alot. We r all humans, nothing less, nothing more. Every1 is equal
