It's affecting *all* of the services and funding normally provided by the federal government. The Iraq war has been entirely financed by deficit spending, which means our government sold treasury bonds to pay for the war. These bonds are owned almost entirely by foreign governments (largest owner is Saudi Arabia), who then make a nice tidy interest on the money they lent us to finance George's war.
Since it's all deficit spending, the current administration tries to cut spending in other areas to make up for the huge war shortfall -- huge cuts have been made in education spending, science, arts, medicare, welfare, job training -- even the IRS (but only by letting go auditors who specialize in rich people, George's buddies). Without the war, we could fully fund all of those programs without borrowing money from Saudi Arabia, and maybe even have a surplus *despite* George's inane, unfair tax cuts. Money spent on domestic programs always provides postive results to the country either economically or socially -- while the money spent on the Iraq war does no such thing, other to enrich some certain defense contractors. Wasted money.

Yeah we could have spent the money better. I'm thinking maybe a school on how to act while al queda is cutting your head off; probably a class taught by someone who wants more money, more teachers aids and less hours.

Yes, and everything else. You can't just blow $1/2 Trillion and not have any effects.
That's $1,666 out of everyone's pocket (based on 300 Million people), which includes children) based on wageearner alone, probably closer to $5,000
Hail Bush! (not)
