I assume you are talking about the common yellow jackets that are always around the picnic table..... Well, like most other eusocial insects, their main purpose is to form large colonies and stabilize their numbers. Their activites are all aimed at the benefits of the entire colony, collecting food, collecting materials to build structures and defence. The "queen" is the only reproductive member of the entire colony, she is the only one who can produce eggs, in fact she is the only one with ovaries. The workers (also female) dotn have ovaries, and therefore have no need for an ovipositor (egg laying apparatus) therefore they have evolved those stingers which most people fear. The stinger is a modified ovipositor and is used in defence of the colony.
Biologically speaking an animal, insects included, are supposed to try and pass on their genetic material, but then why would these females be protecting the nest if the young arent even their's? it comes down to a question of relatedness, the young that the queen produces are actaully more closely realted to each female worker in the colony (they are all sisters) so the workers will do all these chores, some like defence being life threatening, all to ensure the survival of their genes, in this case their sisters.
I hope that gives you a little more insight into the wonderfull world of yellow jackets!
I enclosed a picture just for the fun of it! Enjoy!

I think so, and I'm sure I've drunk some. It was a small can of some weird energy drink called "wasp", and both me and my son agreed it was the most utterly revolting, strangest flavoured liquid that had ever passed our lips!
We still remember the incident, and after remedial counselling, we can now laugh about it, imagining those wasp at the urinals!
By the way I'm sure spiders either wee, or poo because we had a pet one, who constantly muckied our window-sill.

Well. The other answers were amusing, but slightly unenlightening.
In essence, 'weeing' is a method of removing excess nitrogen from the body. Almost all animals need to do this, unless they store it in specialized organs/cells. [or they cross their legs...].
Insects have a waste system involving organs called malpighian tubules. These essentially collect nitrogenous waste from the haemolymph [=insect blood equivalent], in the form of uric acid along with water. When the water is reabsorbed from the malpighian tubules the uric acid forms solid crystals, which precipitate. The solid uric acid (an ammonia like substance) can be excreted as solid waste along with other undigested food and body waste.. as frass... [like someone else said in two words].
Anyway, i had to write as i found that some insect like cabbage-white butterflies store uric acid in the wing cells, which gives them their white color.
Im not sure whether to believe that though, you should never believe what you read on the internet!!
Best of luck finding other answers.

IF you've ever been stung by a bunch of them, as I have, you will no longer be squeamish about how they die. Most of the wasp killers are a nervous system poison.
