Looking at 32" Sanyo LCD tv. Have satellite hookup at home. Can I just buy the TV as is, in the box without buying special additional cables and equipment, and plug it in and attach existing satellite cable?

Okay, well the answers so far are good but, the thing is it depends on your equipment. HDMI is the best way to hook up for HIG DEF COMPONENTS, simply because it does not depend on the quality of the converter inside the unit (such as a satalite receiver) and is a pure HD signal and it also carries digital sound instead of having a seperate COAX or OPTIC cable for that. However, if you do not have a high definition satalite tuner then it doesnt really matter. Now the newer DVD players can also be hooked up using HDMI which may give you a little bit of a better picture than componets and will definately beat the sox of of standard RCA or s-video but you also get the benefit of digital audio going through the cable. The digital audio doesnt much matter unless you have a really expensive video switching A/V receiver like some of the Denons though cause you arent going to get digital audio really from your TV.

Simple answer is, if you have a high definition satalite receiver, sure use the HDMI. If you dont then you have no use for it there. You can hook up regular cable coax or even analog RCA video and audio cables or s-video to the tv.

If you have a DVD player that has HDMI output, sure use it. Otherwise I would at least invest in component cables for that. Remeber component cables dont carry sound so you will need to figure out how you will run the sound either via analog RCA tro the TV or digital coax or optic to your receiver (or both).

If you buy an HDMI cable look for one called python. It is expensive but it is worth it. It is a great cable and will last you a lifetime.

Also, have you given any thought to mounting it and running cables in the wall, you should also install an outlet behind the TV to make it look like it is just a picture hanging on your wall. If so spend the extra and buy an omnimount. They are pricy but for what you pay forthese tvs these days it is worth it.

All of this is very confusing so email me if you need some help. You can get ahold of me easily at jev1979@aol.com. I actually install home theater for a second job. If you happen to live in the San Fran bay area I can probably get you a bid on installation.

Optimal hook up for HDTV is HDMI or DVI to HDMI. This allows a better digital signal. The HDMI cable can be bought at radio shack or ordered for a reasonable amount. do not buy the expensive monster cable. Check with your Satellite provider to make sure the box that you have will provide HD signal. 32 inch Sharp or Sony is better T.V. might check out the LG as well.

you can hook it up several ways

you should shop around and get a deal on a dvi cable or component cable by mail order for the best picture.

the stores are tremendously overpriced on accessories like cables
