epigenetic inheritance: fact or fiction?. So jean-baptiste lamarck was right all along. Epigenetic inheritance is how gene-regulatory information that is not expressed in DNA sequences is transmitted from one generation (of cells or organisms) to the next - that is (from the Greek prefix), 'in addition to' the genetic information encoded in the DNA. so can the memeories of our forefathers be encoded in our DNA? can this be extracted if we will clone humans?

DNA does not store information. It stores instructions for your physical makeup and physiology through the combinations of chemicals. Psychologists believe that memories are stored in the Hippocampus, a part of the brain (somewhere in the center). Nothing from this area has been found to affect the DNA. To answer your question, no. There is no scientific evidence that supports this.

You do not understand what epigenetic inheritance actually is. Epigenetic inheritance only refers to whether or not expression of a given protein has been turned on or off (or upregulated or downregulated, to be less extreme) in a heritable manner that is not due to alteration in the primary DNA sequence. There is no "memory" involved as the term "memory" is properly used in cognitive sciences. The inheritance of these epigenetic trait is not at all like the "neck-stretching inheritance" fallacy. Instead, a given protein has had its gene's expression altered. Claiming that it proves lamarckianism is as valid as claiming that Brownian motion proves that a sugar cube will and must "undissolve" in any given glas of water.

No. DNA does not store memories.

Lamarck was an ignorant fool, and did not practice science.

Since memories are not encoded in DNA, then clones will not have your memories. But then again, is such were anything but SciFi, would you want anyone sharing your deepest darkest shame?

hii....well i would say yess...that our DNA has memory of our ancestors and the DNA is a very intelligent molecule which can store lots of information..i dont know if by cloning we can extract these information..it very unlikely coz cloning will depend much on the genetics and environmemt of a person..even twins kept in different environment will behave differently...
