One theory is that Goliath had acromegaly (also know as giantism), which would explain why he was such a large person. This condition is associated with an enlargement of the pituitary gland (located in the brain). The enlargement of this gland can put pressure on the optical nerves, thereby causing bad vision. This could explain why he didn't duck from the rock (because he couldn't see the small, fast-moving object). Also, a sharp impact to the enlarged pituitary gland could, theoretically, shatter it, explaining why Goliath was so easily killed with a single rock to the head.

Maybe because David surprised him with the slingshot maneuver? Maybe Goliath had so much pride in his ability that it never occurred to him to duck? Maybe Goliath had bad eye sight and didn't see it coming, or the sun was in his eyes? Maybe God brought it about the way he did because it was the path David needed to travel to become king?

Because in baseball they say to keep your eye on the ball, meaning you have to keep both of your eyes looking at the ball. Goliath was so full of himself that the fullness blocked one eye making him have to keep his other eye on the rock that was thrown at him for a longer amount of time, thus stopping him from having enough time to duck.

Pride. He thought David was just a kid, a mere shepherd's boy, and that the God David served was, in a sense, incapable of saving Isreal from his own (Goliath's) might. Then he got rocked in the forehead (no pun intended...lol)

Well, due to the height difference and trajectory of the stone, Golliath would only have brought his face closer anyway. He would have been better off leaning back 'Matrix' style and let the stone fly right on past him. ;o)

Because he was too arrogant, self-centered, self-important, and narcissistic to believe that anyone would ever bring him down. See what sin will do to your life? The least bit of moral fiber will bring you down if your life, your mind, and your ego is run by sin.
