Is the new one a remake, or a sequel?

The reason i ask is that while most of it looks like a remake, you have Burt Rynolds (i heare reprising his original char) in it.

'Tis a remake - it's just too similar to the original to be a sequel.

It's a remake but Burt Reynolds is in it as one of the older inmates. It was filmed about 45 miles from my house at the old New Mexico State Penitentiary compound in Santa Fe!!

It's a remake. Burt Reynolds has a small part as kind of a hommage to the original.

The new one is a remake of the original starring Burt Reynolds as the main character. It was a better movie, too, in my opinion. Better cast, better director, and more credible.

It is a remake with a more of a "today's" events feeling. Burt Reynolds was in it because it just would be wrong to not have him in it.

"The Longest Yard" is walking back to your table where your buddies are sitting after watching you ask a lovely lady to dance and she says "no".
