Who's fault was it for the tragic flooding of New Orleans? Could it have been prevented?

This answer goes way back. In 1956 after the last major hurricane hit New Orleans, they knew the levees were not going to hold. I recently spoke with an engineer who graduated college in the 1960s who said they had written about the New Orleans levees in the his college textbooks. It would be unfair to blame a single person. I blame the entire country for not taking it seriously when something could have been done.

I don't know if the levees would have helped save New Orleans. The storm surge devastated other parts of the gulf coast that were above sea level. The real tragedy is that the people weren't evacuated, and there are several political figures who are at fault. An even greater tragedy is that they're spending millions upon millions to rebuild a city that continues to sink below sea level.

The actual fault lies with whatever ****** decided to build a city on the Gulf of Mexico under sea level in a hurricane zone. That's as simple as it gets.

Quit politicizing it and either do something about it or shut the Heck up.

It's Mayor Nagin's fault, because he should have addressed the hurriance risk long before the hurricane. But, then they dumb citizens of New Orleans re-elected the fool!
