Lets look a the big picture. Right now if you watch the videos of most Rap artists they got the girls, the cars, money, gold and the life style that is lacking in just about every ones life, they became role models so it stands to reason your gonna have wanna-bes'. Early adulthood is a rebellious time and also a time of wanting to belong, it's part of the process of growing up. There may and should come a time when a bit of introspection and reevaluating comes into play and then personal growth is possible. A tid-bit of recent information, I'm a live in manger of a drug recovery house, 10 guys live here, 3 are young and one wears his pants low and calls himself Big Pimpin' as he has 2 girl friends. I asked the other 2 in Mr.Pimpin's presents if they ever wore their pants like that, one said he did in high school but thought it was stupid, the other said he always thought it was silly. Now heres my opinion of the whole thing, I think it's a great thing, what I see happening is there is communication between the races,a understanding right now that may be a bit negative but they can use that experience at a time when they do take a look at themselves. Like that saying goes if it don't kill you it'll make you stronger. By the way I got your question from your web page after reading your answer about maybe going back to the joint, a little advice from someone that grew up in reform schools and penitentiaries(19yrs.)If you do go back hang with the winners those that want more out of life than on a positive note rather than trying to come up with something hip and slick, don't let the time use you, you use the time, or the one that was told me and it still don't make a lick of sence Walk slow and drink plenty of water

Anyone who dresses in oversized shirts, pants, bright shoes, big ugly fake chains and huge watches and say "Yo" Alldatime are idiots. I don't care if they are white, black, yellow, red, brown or metalic purple.... anyone who walks around talking like their mother was a grade school drop out and their father could be any one of thousands who paid for a 'lil booty" are All "lil Idiots"

It's all just a fad. I went through a phase where I acted a little like that, just not to the extremes of buying real baggy jeans and wearing gold chains or something. But I liked rap music and stuff like that. It is all just up to what they like at the time. It's silly and looks really dumb, yeah, but it's what they want. If they want to look ridiculous, let 'em. Better them than me.
I think also, that sometimes they want to adopt another culture. They don't like the one they grew up in so they decide to try another. Then again, maybe they did grow up in it. So that's all they know. I tend to think that it's not that important to try and decipher the reasons why people do the things they do. Silly or not, we all have to live together and put up with one another.

There is no such thing as "acting black". They are just following a trend that originated in a specific culture. That's like saying a black person who surfs is "acting white". It's ridiculous!

white, black, hispanic, asian.....I don't care who it is. They all look and should like jack as-ses.

But what do you expect from a bunch of people who are taught to conform, don't question, and obey.... the government school system is breeding generations of mindless drones.

I think it's an act.

In my lily white suburb, I see kids all "gangsta'd" up and think, "If you walked through the neigborhood I grew up in, you'd have your *** kicked for you before you made it half a block."

I don't know why they do it but it doesn't attract anyone worth knowing. However the "wiggers" aren't worth knowing either. Sad that people can't just be themselves.
