So stress coating is supposed to coat fish with slime to help them heal, and salt is supposed to get rid of it to make them more responsive to meds.

1. do either ever filter out?
2. do they cancle eachother out?
3. is there anything else i should know about either?

Stress Coat contains aloe to promote healing. That's its biggest helpful property. It also contains good electrolytes to promote a healthy environment.

Aquarium salt more or less wards off some bacteria if used correctly. It also adds electrolytes to promote healing. It doesn't necessarily make fish more responsive to medication.

No, they don't cancel each other out. I tend to use both for new bettas I get that have fin rot.

No, they don't cancel each other out.

Some fish are sensitive to salt, particularly scaleless fish like tetras and most bottom-feeders. Salt will sometimes even cause a betta's kidneys to shut down. So you will always have to keep an eye on your fish when treating with salt.

Salt is a lot less expensive than Stress Coat as well. And it's very difficult, if not impossible, to overdose on Stress Coat, whereas too much salt in your fish's tank will cause problems.

Good luck!!

I've always supplemented my bettas' water with a tiny pinch of aquarium salt. A big plus is that fungi will not grow when some salt is present. (Fungus is a pain to get rid of otherwise). The salt also reduces stress for the fish and just plain feels good to them (just watch out, as other people have said, because the salt isn't good for all species).

I use aquarium salt in conjunction to AquaSafe, which is very similar to Stress Coat. It conditions the water by neutralizing chlorine and stuff like that. I've had very good results in my tanks using this combination.

If you have a fresh water tank, you don't want to put to much salt in it or it will kill the fish. The stress coat works well if you add it with each water change. If your fish are sick, change the water, add the medicine without the stress coat until they are well, change the water again and add the stress coat.

I use aquarium salt alone. The salt also encourages fish to produce more slime and it is more difficult for some parasites and other problems to survive in water that has salt added.

no, you can use both together.

stress coat is really for making tap water de-chorlined, where salt is used to reduce the stress of water changes and fish moving.

i use both alot together, during each water change.

THe only thing to know, is do not use salt with fishes with no scales like clown loaches. This is very bad for these fishes as they can't handle alot of salt.
