Mexico is the home of the Aztec and Mayan Indians (among others) that was conquered by the Spanish.
Spanish (Hispanic) origin would be from Spanish population
Mexican would be from the Indian population
(Texican would be the offspring of a Texas born parent and a Mexican born parent.)
American would be someone born in America - North or South
like any other conquered area the ethnic divisions have been blurred by countless generations of interbreeding.you probably have both backgrounds in your blood. however a DNA test would reveal what you do have lurking in your genetic makeup. just be ready for what you find out cuz there are really very few pure (sometimes called blue bloods) bloodlines left in the world.
Most people would probably find out that they really don't have any excuse for their prejudice if they had a DNA test ran!!!
Personally I'm an American with bloodlines tracing to Scottish, Irish, English, Cherokee, Apache, and Lord only knows what else.

Most Mexicans are Hispanics. Some may have pure native blood. Hispanics are people descended from a Spanish bloodline, many other countries besides Mexico.

A Mexican is a person who is or whose family is from Mexico. Hispanic denotes a spanish-speaking background from any number of countries. My family dates back to 1598 in the Santa Fe area, before eastern North America was colonized by the British.

Your heritage/culture has to be Spanish,i don't know why people think they are Hispanic from just being born in a Spanish country, that's not how it works. It could be an irish person living in some place like Spain,Mexico,Puerto Rico, etc. and they think they're Hispanic but aren't.I'm a Hispanic and in my family we aren't raised to think you're hispanic because you're born in a certain place,it's all about your race/heritage.They may be citizens of that place but not the race

Hispanic = Spanish-speaking. All Mexicans are Hispanic, and it covers all of central and South America (except for Brazil--portuguese, Belize--english, Guyana--english, Suriname--dutch, and French Guyana--french), and Spain, as well as most of the Caribbean.

If you have living parents, grandparents, etc., ask them about the family history (which is interesting to know in any case). If your family name is Hernandez, you probably are; if it is Smith, you probably aren't.
