I know there's been loads of Cosby's, Happy Days, Diff'rent Strokes etc in the US but I'm sure either Chucklevision or Last of the Summer Wine have had more episodes.

When talking "episodes" instead of "years", the winner MUST be Ozzie and Harriett with 435 episodes (1952-1966). As of 29 May 2006, The Simpsons has just 378 episodes.

But, if you're talking "years", "Last of the Summer Wine" has it. What began in 1973 as a pilot episode on the BBC's Comedy Playhouse program has turned into Britain's--and the world's--longest-running sitcom, currently in its 28th year. They've produced 240 episodes as of March 12, 2006.
