I am truly overwhelmed. I’ve never seen answers to compare with these, I am totally unable to even think about picking a “best” because ever single response is a winner.
Please forgive me for putting it to a vote
Sincerely,
Rich

My story? (By request) I tried leaving a medical center after minor surgery last week. I didn’t wait quite long enough after the procedure and started going into shock on the way out of the building. A very kind older woman asked me if I was ok. When I responded “Not really”, she asked if I needed help. I gratefully accepted, and we walked arm and arm to the benches in the lobby. Yeah, I was too out of it to properly thank her, but I sure did appreciate that help.

Always - why not make someone's day. One day at a local hospital I saw a woman in a wheelchair who was probably in her mid-80's but was absolutely gorgeous!! I went over and told her, and she hugged me and cried. She said no one had told her that since her husband had died. Made my day too. I always try to do something nice at least once a day.

There was an elderly lady in front om me in line at the grocery store. Most people (even myself at times) would just be annoyed at the extra time it took her to finish with check out. Instead, I offered to help her put her bags in her cart. She accepted and was so surprised that I did that that at the end she couldn't stop thanking me and offered to pay me (I did not take the money).
I felt great because my shopping experience went faster and I did something nice. Now whenever I don't have my daughter with me and I have the extra time I try to do this type of thing. I helped another lady load her car when she was having a really hard time.
It just feels really good and make the world a little nicer. Imagine if everyone did random acts of kindness how nice the world would be. I have a baby and just someone going out of their way to hold a door when I'm out by myself with just her feels good.

I suspect that most people have committed multiple random acts of kindness just in the general course of being decent human beings. Mostly the little things like opening the door for that person who had their hands full, helping that lady in the wheelchair reach an item on the top shelf at the grocery store, etc...
What generally happens is a smile and a thank you that leaves you with hope that people might not be so bad after all.

I try to do kind things on a daily basis, if possible.
I was reading a story the other day about a man who had committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate bridge. When they went to his apartment they found a note that said "I feel I'm all alone in this world and am going to kill myself by jumping off the bridge. If one person smiles at me on the way there, I will not jump".
Makes me very sad to think that something so small as a smile would have changed this person's life.
Give what you can, when you can, even if it's just a smile to a stranger.

I was havin a crappy day once, and I went to Starbucks to get coffee, and I let a lady turn into the lot before me because otherwise she would have been waiting forever, and she went into the Starbucks drive-thru before me, which kinda made me mad (remember I'm already having a bad day), and when I got to the window, the girl told me that the lady in front of me paid $2.00 towards whatever I ordered! Even though it was only $2.00, I was shocked...no one has ever done that for me before. I wish I could somehow have said thank you because that's not something I expect from people who live in this area.

Random acts of kindness I've committed. A few months ago I was in line buying cream cheese that would have only totaled about a dollar. Had a handfull of change and a wallet with a $20. The girl in front of me was short about 30 cents. I handed her the change and told her to keep it. I paid with the $20.
I let someone go in front of me at the grocery store a few weeks ago because she was old and only had a couple of items. I had a cart full of stuff and tons of coupons.
Several months ago, I told someone their baby had kicked off his shoe.
This past weekend a young teen dropped a quarter and I chased him down to give it back. He didn't even say thanks.

I have plenty of times committed random acts of kindness...I always do it for a very selfish reason...doing it makes me feel good, like I'm a better person. I remember this one time I was driving for my first day of work at a pro photographer in training and I saw this homeless man and his dog on the side of the road. I was already running late but that didn't matter to me I turned left instead of right (the direction to go for my training) and went to a gas station. I bought the man two gallons of water, bread, and peanut butter and the dog some dog food. I then took it to the man and gave it and $10 (all the money I had left) to him. He said thank you and looked like he was going to cry as he opened the dog food and poured some for his dog. I just walked back to my car and went to work. Luckily I didn't get in trouble for being late. It made me feel good. That's why I do it. Now random acts of kindness that I have received...to date...other than my family helping me when I needed help...just one...I had a flat tire back in 1999 or 2000 on the way to college. I was devasted...it was finals and I was going to miss them and my teachers had a no-excuse policy meaning if you missed the finals you'd just have to re-take the class. I was about to give up hope when an elderly man in a pickup truck stopped and asked if he could help me. I showed him the tire and he promptly removed it and took me into town to get it fixed...I paid for it to be fixed even though he offered to pay...then he took me back to my car and put it back on. To this day I still don't know who the man was....I mean he gave me his name and address and said he and his wife would keep me in his prayers. I wrote to him once but never heard back from him. I've since lost the address and name. But I will always remember him and his kindness. Oh yeah and I did make it just in time, passed the finals, passed the classes.

Someone stopped and helped me change my tire on a busy hwy, I offered him money and he said, "No, just stop and help someone else" So, a woman was in an accident, and as my husband went to call 911, I went and held her hand in the car, and told her not to move, stayed with her until ambulance arrived. Since the man helped me with my tire, I try to help, when I can. Just little stuff, it makes me feel good.

I try and make a habit of it. One that was done to me was when I was at a book sale table looking at a book I wanted but wasn't sure if I had enough money for it. I was about to buy it when someone I only kind of knew came up and told me to wait a minute. He said he saw me look at the book several times and decided he was going to buy it for me. Honestly, I felt that good feeling when you discover that someone really cares about you (I even gave him a hug).

I was in a supermarket queue and an older lady was in front - I decided to pay for her shopping. I told her that it was to prove to her that there were still good people in the world. God knows what made me say that !! She was amazed.
Another time I paid a strangers rent.
I stay at home now . Laugh
