Relax while releasing the clutch and remember to give a little more gas at the same time. Letting the clutch out slowly helps.

Ok. first you need to find out at what point, when letting the clutch pedal out, the car will begin to creep forward. Find this without pushing down on the accelerator (just as a first practice step). Its ok to stall the truck at this time in order to find the illusive point. What your looking for is the critical point where the car will begin rolling on its own. After you find this point, you need to begin to remember just how far your foot is letting the clutch out (do this many times while making that foot-mind connection at where exactly your foot is at this point).Visualize your foot position in your mind. This should be the point from here on out that you should aim for when beginning to take off from a stop. The secret is to reach this point and then "slowly" allow the clutch pedal to continue coming up. Depending on how much acceleration is required, you can determine how much to push the accelerator down. Then continue practicing with the same car. Every car is a little different, so stick to the same car until you become familiar with the mechanics of the motion.

The best way to learn to take off from a start is to go to a big parking lot and practice.

Now when you are in this parking lot, start by putting the truck in first gear and without giving it any gas let your foot out on the clutch slowly. This will allow you to see at what point the clutch engages, the truck will move even without you giving it gas...

So know that you know where the clutch engages at you can figure out when to give it gas, after about 20 min. in that parking lot you will be taking off like a pro.

Good Luck and have fun!!!

relax and keep trying. It will soon become natural for you. It would probably help if you could practice without your boyfriend in the vehicle....he might be making you nervous. Find a nice empty parking lot where you can start and stop without bothering anyone.

Keep at it. You'll get the feel of the clutch and gas with practice. I didn't pull away from the curb with grace and dignity my first time either.

Not a bad idea! Also don't be afraid to rev the engine a little more---You'll get smooth later.
