The reason why at this point Mets fans are more loyal is because the Mets have not been good for a while, so only the real fans are left. The Yankees have both their diehard fans, who are real diehard fans, and the frontrunners who just like the fact that they are competative every year, but aren't loyal fans. If you looked at the fan base in the 80's, it would have been the other way around, with only loyal Yankees fans being left rooting for them, and some loyal Mets fans combined with some frontrunners. Nothing intrinsic about the real fans though. Both have their true followers.

Don't know much about the article either, but IT'S NOT TRUE AT ALL!! The person that wrote that article sounds like a Met fan to me... IT'S NOT TRUE!! I'm a die hard Yankee Fan and very very very very very LOYAL!!

I think real Mets fans and real Yankees fans are both loyal to their teams... I think half the fans wearing Yankee caps now were the same people wearing Mets caps in the 1980s!
