all names have to be non-violent and unthreatening. a team will get sued. Even an amusement park ride could not be named "banshee" because it is a dead ghost or whatever. no joke my dad worked on it. Team names have to be corny because creative teams dont get much leeway. Though cleveland cavaliers has a good flow..

As opposed to soccer nicknames like the Toffees (Everton), Jam Tarts (Hearts), Tractor Boys (Ipswich), etc.? There are some lame names but loads of cool ones, too like the Raiders, Buccaneers, Bulls, Blackhawks, etc.

Anyway, what's cooler to kids than a Rocket blasting into space?
Twins is just a reflection of the Twin Cities where the team plays.
Wizards were forced to change from the cool Bullets as DC had way too much gun crime. Wizards probably now appeals to Harry Potter fans. Not a big fan of the name but there ya go.
Nets--OK, super lame.
Galaxy--well, I much preferred the old NASL Aztecs.
Giants--you don't like Giants? You prefer Midgets? Or Height Challenged Persons?

Because when people think up names for the franchises, they're trying to see what name best fits the team in that community. For example, the Twins are derived from the Twin Cities. the Rockets are derived from the space program (Houston, we have a problem).

The exception is when franchises move, i.e. St.Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Hornets, they take their names and logos with them instead of leaving them in the original hometowns. When the former Browns moved to Baltimore, they left everything there. Names also come from comparisons to other franchises, i.e. Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, Detroit Lions and Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, etc.

So i'm a softball participant and have fairly been protecting up with all of that stuff. it fairly is a dream i might desire to play in the olympics sometime in spite of the incontrovertible fact that as of now softball won't be in it by the 2012 olympics and probable even the 2016 olympics in spite of the incontrovertible fact that they have have been given reported that it possibly lower back in by 2016. i don't totally carry close why you need to take a game like baseball and softball out of the olympics in spite of the incontrovertible fact that yet between the considered necessary dumbest donning activities or donning activities alot of the international would not play are although in.

They're nice and short and easy to say

People don't come to watch a team because they have a cool name. This isn't like soccer; we actually have a sport to base our interest off of
