Well, I have a small restaraunt called "Eat n' Dump" with spectacular food, and everything. I don't know why it's not doing well at all, I have made no profit, I've lost 19,000 dollars about. It's very small though, and the inside is all brownish, like the carpets. But, really, only about 12 people have come in since it's opening night a month ago.

Eat and dump means you can dump off your worries when you get there.

Gee, Allie, you don't think it might have anything to do with the name, do you?

Hi! I work in a hotel, and do promotions for the hotel and the restaurant, and here is my opinion.

First, the name of the restaurant - Chang it. You don't want people thinking it is a DUMP, and that is what they subconsciously think when they hear the name.

Also, brighten up the colors - brown is mundane. Use bright colors, red, orange, yellow...

Give it a new, fun name. The do a Grand Re-opening. Put up flyers, let the local newspapers know, if you can afford it, put an ad in, but if not, then invite the food critics in to eat.

Make certain you have enough staff, and that they are giving good customer service. Make certain the food is really good. Invite family and friends for a pre-opening night, and let them give you their honest feedback, then take any action as appropriate to make necessary improvements.

Once you have the product and service right, you need to promote it. Go to businesses close by and offer a discount for their employees. Go to apartment buildings/condos/homes nearby and leave flyers. Put up info at the library, or any other place you can.

Good luck!!!!! I know you can do it!!

Maybe it's the name. I would never go to a place called "Eat and Dump." My first thought is that all the food would give me diarrhea!

Lay down a little more cash on a marketing professional. He or she can help you with a new name and some creative advertising campaigns.

Another thing: Be prepared to struggle for the first couple of years. it usually takes at least that long to start turning a profit on a new business. The good news is that much of your start-up is a tax write off.

Maybe the name is a "turn-off". j/k. Well, as a realtor I can tell you the three most important things to consider when buying a commercial property: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Are you located away from downtown? If so, you will need to spend about another $1,000 just on advertisements. Also, in your ads you should write down that you accomodate small parties and weddings. Also, make the restaurant lighter inside. Nobody likes it when it's too dark and add some fresh flowers. Otherwise, just one month is not enough to gain some permanent clients. The restaurant business is tough but can be very rewarding. Good luck!

1. Change the name now while you can.
2. Sell Cheesesteaks.
3. Restaurants take time to grow. A few months and $19,000 is way too soon to give up or panic.
4. Advertise wisely. Give coupons for buy one get one free just to get people in the door.
5. Make good Cheesesteaks.
6. Where are you located?

One, change the name! It makes people think if they eat there they will get diarrea. Two, WORD OF MOUTH!! Have your friends casually bring up the restaurant to people at work saying "My friend has this rest. and its GREAT." Lets say, five particualr friends. Tell them they can invite up to five people each and they will get 20% off their bill. If the food really is that great, they will come back. Also, the most important thing is, PAINT IT! Throw some lighter colors on the walls and white table cloths on like every other table, maybe a red on every other one after that.See if you can go cheap on this, like at walmart to start. Dim the lights a little bit, its a cheap way to set a particular mood. Brighter in the day, a bit dimmer at dinner. Once business starts picking up, you can afford longer lasting table cloths and maybe replace the carpet. AND ADVERTISE ADVERTISE ADVERTISE!!! Hit the web, ask friends to put you in reccomendations on myspace, webpages, as signatures on emails... ANYTHING!!! Where are you located and what kind of food do you serve?

where are you located i have never heard of your place. You probably should change the name and maybe start advertising. Start doing free delivery to get your food noticed. Have a menu sent out to about 1000 homes nearby and I'm sure you're going to get calls of more than 12 people. Dont worry too much just try harder.

I would change the name. I know it means something but it sounds like you can eat and take a dump at the same time

First, change the name. The word Dump is not a good visual image. Second, lighten up the interior. Have you tried local neighborhood mailers - i.e. free fries with a sandwich?

It might have something to do with the name. I wouldn't eat at a place called Eat n' Dump? Doesn't sound to appetizing. Sorry.
