For instance, If i wanted to put a link to yahoo.com but have only Yahoo show up on the link, how would I do that?

Surround the text that you want to show up with the anchor tag containing the web address, like this:
Yahoo

is the tag which is used to link to other pages or website. HREF is the attribute of this tag, where you specify the address(location) of the page you want to link to.
i.e.
Link to Yahoo!
