Here's a DRUG FREE trick that I do when I can't sleep
- Get cozy in bed, ready for sleep
- Think of a name of a loved one that starts with the letter "A", then move through the alphabet, thinking of someone for each letter. Most likely you wont be able to make it through the entire alphabet
- If you make it all the way to "Z", then start over. This time name the person and also think of one quality you like most about them
This exercise will keep your mind off of other things, and get you into a comfortable state and ready for slumber. Remember, don't have caffeine too close to bed time. Also, stay away from big physical activity - that will naturally make you more awake.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Listen to your Mother. Mothers know the best.
You can help yourself by taking a 30 min walk an hour before a bed time. Plus when you are in bed, take a breath on 5 counts in and 5 counts out. You'll sleep like a baby. Have a sweet dreams. Good luck!

Shutting down your mind takes some practice. First make sure your not intaking alot of caffeine towards the end of the day. If you find it relaxing you make want to take a hot shower (this also makes getting ready for work less hectic). When you lay down try this simple excercise. Breathe in and out through your nose, strating at your forehead relax all the muscles, feel them loosen up as you go down your body, as you relax each muscle group feel it sink into the bed and you get heavier until you are lost in dreamland.

It's fairly hard for our bodies to get up at different times on different days. If you have any way to make your bedtime and getting up times more consistent, do so. Otherwise, start a wind down routine well before you plan to go to bed. For example, turn off the tv and the computer and dim any lighting. Also, the darker you can make your room when you're trying to sleep, the better.

I used to have a terrible time getting to sleep, couldn't get my brain to just SHUT UP.
My hubby suggested I tried counting, by threes. Like 3,6,9, etc... because it is a little more difficult than just counting and you have to shut out the rest of your thoughts in order to do it. I tried it and it worked, So well, in fact; that the problem eventually stopped all together.
