Now he has a degree b/f Jake is insisting I call him John (His real name) when we are together and he's 'Networking' ie looking for a job from his father's friends.

For 'Networking' see nepotism. If he can't make his own way with a degree, what's the point?

If he was looking for a job from me, I wouldn't be bothered whether he was called John or Jake (Jakey-wakey might put me off!).

He really needs to be himself. If he makes up a new personality to get a job, he's then got to keep it up.
