Yep. It must've been a penalty shot during regulation time. As soon as the player touches the ball, all players can break from behind the penalty box. How tricky.

I don't think so anymore. All players on the kicking team not involved in the shot must stay back if it is a true penalty shot. If it wasn't a free kick, then the other team could have stood in front of the player with the foul shot.
This could happen if the defending team was poorly coached or out of postion, but it would take a moron not to be aware of it.

Assy McBonerson gave you the right answer, I think this is not played often because on a penalty kick the striker has the advantage over the keeper, playing the ball like that can be very risky a quick defender can run and block the pass.

A penalty kick doesn't necessarily mean you have to kick at the goal. I do think though that the guy he kicked it to was off-sides.
