They have started calling themselves "indepenents". That way, they can still espouse all of their conservative garbage, but when someone mentions Bush, they can say "Screw him, I'm an independent."

Bunch of cowards.

On December 31, 2005 most republicans were standing hard by the President's side. On January 1, 2006 -- you know, about the time that the news media started talking up the fact that this was a crucial mid-term election year -- many republicans started moving away from the President and ducking for cover.

A congressman who in 2005 couldn't get out word of his support for the President fast enough is now a guy who is just as quick to point out where he and the President disagree. That same schmuck will, in 2007, be back glued to the President's side... if he's been re-elected, of course.

I actually don't think you understand the conundrum of being a conservative.

As I am a polite girl I will explain it to you.

I am very conservative, much more conservative than Bush or many of the Republicans. I have voted for other parties and am about half Libertarian. The word Republican just will not fit much anymore. There are a lot of us younger people who don't agree with Bush and we feel he is just too Liberal.

I would call myself independent because I want to go issue by issue. I want to research and decide on my own. And I don't want to follow a party line if I disagree with it.

I am further right than most Republicans in some areas but I am more liberal in some areas. This is called being active in politics.
Do you go lock step with everything Howard Dean and Hilary say? Or do you think for yourself?

I've always been an Independent and used to lean democrat and I support Bush. The Democrats of today change with the polls and that is not good in today's world with the new dangers we face. Bush is a strong and decisive leader who keeps his word and doesn't flip flop. Democrats need to realize that they can't be flip flopping all the time and what about them saying that the current ME crisis would not be going on if they were in power? Do democrats really believe that? That's a good question I think I'll ask that.

If I were to say I was an independent, it would mean (to me) I think for my self. Sometimes I agree with the liberals, sometimes with the conservatives. I actually use the term "libertarian" sometimes.

There are also some people who are rather conservative, but disagree with Bush. Because some conservatives are die-hards, agreeing with anyone with an (R) by their names, others make a point of calling themselves "independent" because they won't do that.

That's not cowardly. It's standing up for what you believe!

No worse than flaming lefty Kool-Aid sucking ditto-heads calling themselves "progressives". What a joke.

I like President Bush. I may not agree with all that he does or says, but I like him. Unapologetically.

Unfortunately, he's not really a Republican. He's a closet lefty, what with all the spending and big government action these days. He just hasn't realized it yet.

Oh, did I mention that I am a REPUBLICAN?

news flash, you can be a conservative and an independant! im conservative on tons of issues, but im an independant...there are tons of things that bush has done that i dont agree with. im an independant cause i think for myself and come to my own conclusion rather than voting for the party line and praising everythign that party does, no matter how dumb it is. i dont listen to the politicians or those idiots that make "documentaries", like so many young "educated" adults do. more people need to get out and think for themselves rather than swallow everything one side tells them, or let their hatred for one person rule all their decision making.

For a person with "2 DEGREES" You seem to ask pretty broad overreaching simplistic topical questions.
IS it because you feel the people you are asking have a low level of reasoning,
or is it because you cannot get past the headlines of the "Mainstream Media"?

A Proud Republican [from a family of Democrats]

Name some. I suppose you're talking about Bill O'Reilly. Okay, there is one. Now name the rest.

We're waiting.

I'd even accept being called a coward than being referred to as a Democrat.
