I am thinking about buyiing one and I am wondering how much it will cost to repair and maintain this high-performance engine. I have been known to be rough on engines.

I have the same engine in my 1989 750il and have to admit I am pretty hard on vehicles myself. They can be reliable and troublefree for the most part but when repairs are needed they are EXPENSIVE. Make sure to get any maintenance records. I would advise getting it checked by a reputable shop before purchase and while there ask for the price of a tuneup and how much to replace the various water hoses etc.

850i motor rebuild will run about 6,000 -8500 dollars.repalcing engine with new will run about 13,000 dollars.

I would think again they are not all they are cracked up to be,and parts are very expensive.
