You could have an awful lot of programs running in the background (or a lot of awful programs). If you have not done any spyware cleaning then most definitely get adaware, spybot and windows defender (all free) and run them. Go to your start-up (start-run-msconfig) and uncheck strange looking stuff unless you know for sure that you need it for a printer, scanner, anti-virus program, etc. If that does not help it is possible you connection itself may not be configured properly. Download cablenut and follow the directions (also free).

I agree with other writers, you may have spyware.
That is my first guess. Follow their suggestions.
Beware, some companies have forced the anti-
spyware companies to exclude their spyware.
!!!Money and lawyers talk!!!
And "Yes" you may have a virus. Update your anti-virus
program and run a full scan.
For hard drive cleanup a very good (and FREE) program
is Ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com.
It will cleanup your hard drive.
Defragment your HD after cleanup whenever you have time.
Also check your startup items (START - RUN -
msconfig - startup tab.)
see http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
so you can tell what each startup item really is about.
There are some good registery cleanup programs.
I use the one that comes with VCOM's System Suite.
Sometimes when the registery hasn't been cleaned
and defraged for a long time, it loads very slowly.
With Windows I do the above maintenance at least
every week. I'll be glad when I am completely switched
over to Linux and won't have to waste so much time
with maintenance.
Good Luck,

well, this can be caused by many problems, there could be a high util at the ISP.
if its not that best idea is to delete all your temp internet files, run a full spyware/virus scan.
i would advise using adaware, spybot, and windows defender.
if u google for any of these its a free download and free to use.
this should speed it up, it also depends on how many programs u have running in the background eg if u look on the bottom right hand corner of your screen check how many icons u have there more than 10 can cause slowness.

You might have Spyware.
Keep your own Anti-virus up to date, and check the status regularly.
Get and update several Anti-spyware solutions. I use AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. I use the free versions from http://www.download.com Update and run these regularly. Especially IMMEDIATELY after an upexpected pop-up.
Download and install FireFox free from http://www.mozilla.com This is a browser that is safer to use than IE. Use this for general surfing and google searching. Only use IE when you MUST have IE, such as Windows Updates.
If you have Windows XP with SP2, activate the Windows firewall and check the status. If you don't, get Zone Alarm the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com
Take these steps to keep your computer ALIVE.

You might have too much "stuff" on your computer.
Such as games, photos, programs.
Try de-fragging your computer,
it takes a while, but it helps.

Computer Slow
Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:
http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......
Can't live without it and windows...
Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.
Other things to try:
1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
