Do you think there really is a connection between the full moon and people acting, or driving nuts? Could it be some kind of imbalance mentally, or just mere coincidence?

The myth that a full moon can cause mental imbalance goes back hundreds (maybe thousands) of years. In fact, the English words 'lunacy' and 'lunatic' both share the same root word ('Luna', French for 'moon') as the word 'lunar.' Of course, our distant ancestors had no scientific evidence to support the idea that the moon has any effect on human behavior nor does any such evidence exist today. Cecil Adams has speculated as to why some people still believe in the full moon myth (see link below). He thinks that people find it easier to remember a happening (e.g. a murder) when there is something else to connect it with. That is to say, people would be more likely to remember a murder committed during a full moon than on any other random day, giving them the false impression that there is some sort of connection. This seems likely, as it is well-established that the human brain is much better at recalling memories that are 'connected' in some way to other ideas or concepts.

Almost 3 percent of all crimes are committed within 24 hours of the full moon. Of course, that time span also makes up about three percent of time.

if lunar cycles can effect huge bodies of water, why wouldn't they effect the human body as well?? i don't feel it's a coincidence. i work with the public, and have seen it over and over again.
