The worst part of IBS is the fear. This causes the body to produce adrenaline and this speeds up the gut.
The first thing to check is stress. If you can cut down on stress, you'll find the symptoms reduce.
The symptoms can be triggered by various foods. A common one is sugar. The ham sandwich is probably OK (but check the ingredients in the ham!) Coke and lemonade would have me in the bathroom all day. Try cutting sugar out of your diet completely for a week and see if this helps. You'll need to read a lot of labels.
Symptoms can be relieved with preparations containing oil of pepermint. One is called Colpermin, but there are many others. Whisky also brings relief - but only in small doses!

I suggest you cut out dairy products. In particular cows milk and any derivative. Go onto milksucks.com

I gave up about 4 weeks because of the same problem and what a difference.

And I'm losing weight, just under 1 stone in four weeks, and I'm eating the same volume of food, just nothing with cows milk

It's not easy to start with, and I thought i would falter, but I perceviered.

Try it it won't do you any harm to try and you might be surprised.

If you need further encouragement. 3 points:

1. The calcium in cows milk does not benefit our bone structure in any way. (do some research)
2. Our bodies cannot digest cows milk and that's why our digestive system messes up
3. Research somatic cells (see my questions) if that doesn't put you off then I have failed.

To help balance go for feta cheese with goats or sheeps milk and you can get goats butter as well (you will not know the difference) but keep it to a minimum because of the fat content

Good luck!!

That's not a particularly healthy days food. There is no fruit or veg there, and the pop is full of sugar and additives that will upset your stomach.

You can get tested for food intolerances, through a blood test. They find out what foods cause reactions and then offer advice on diet and ways to avoid them.

There is medication out there but all it does is mask the symptoms, not treat the source. Diet is the key.

Gluten in the bread & gluten in the corn chips - you need to have IBS diagnosed by your GP and have any other nasties ruled out. Any change in your usual bowel movement could indicate something ominous, or simply a form of food poisoning or bacterial infection which needs treatment.

You need to see your gp and get him to diagnose it, If you do have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, you can either get an over the counter medicine called Equilon or the gp will prescribe one for you. You will need to keep a food diary, it may be that you have a food allergy.

Keep a food diary, write down when you have these attacks and when you go the gp he will know what to suggest from there

i was advised to take a food allergy test at Holland & Barrett which usually detects what you are reacting to. Also Mint Tea is supposed to help when you get bad stomach pains if that is too disgusting a hot water bottle on the stomach
