there are a few good acts out, and very few great acts, like the kings of leon, or clap your hands, say yeah! but for the most part, it sounds to me that rock music for the most part is too produced, too clean, and not 'rock n' roll' enough, like nirvana and stuff. there is rock that does sound like its about to fall apart any sencond, like the hive or even american ones like some white stripes. please, just serious answers...i am not dissing rock, i love it just as much as the next dude, i just want to know what you guys think....also, keep in mind this is rock i am talking about, not metal.

I think modern rock sucks so much because it requires minimum talent. If you go back and listen to The Eagles or anything from the 60's-70's the musicians actually PLAYED their instruments. Not like the crappy bands now that play 2 or 3 chords over and over. And unfortunately today's youth doesn't understand the meaning of good music, so they continue to popularize those crappy bands.

A large part of todays music problem is that artists are usually judged more on look than talent. Throw that into the mix of music being run as a business so they only take what they view as the sure thing and you end up with a bunch of talentless hacks plays the same tired melody over and over again

I happen to agree with you whole-heartedly, however, I believe that it's a matter of progression. Whether we like it or not, things can't stay the same. I have great faith that the general public will get weary of this ice cream rock and put some soul and grit back into it.

I await it with baited breath.

The Strokes
The Walkmen
French Kicks
Spoon
Wilco
White Stripes/Raconteurs

How many great bands do you really need? Look back at the time of Nirvana's heyday - plenty of crap was released then, too.

no i totally agree
rock is not dirty anymore
I mean to think of where it came from and how controversial the devils music was
and now it is so produced, so calculated and fake
I just love it when it's a little gritty
i love the yeah yeah yeahs, who although coming into the mainstream have not compromised their love for strange and unusual sounds, feedback and off notes

and if i hear nickelback once more i'll die

I think you answered your own question.
Most music today is all about the money. No one sings or writes about anything meaningful. No one has heart or soul.
