That was it - the Scorpion kick - an absolute classic - I remember watching it in the pub and everyone being speechless for a few seconds, and then bursting out laughing - an instant football legend.

José René Higuita Zapata. He played for Colombia. That save was called the "Scorpion Kick"

the goalkeeper that you have mentioned would probably be former Colombian goalkeeper Rene Higuita (full name: Jose Rene Higuita Zapata). i remember him in the 1990 World Cup when he came out of his goal to dribble a Cameroon player, but unfortunately he lost the ball & Roger Milla capitalize his error & scored the goal!!!! that was one of his bizzarre goalkeeping i have ever seen.
in September 1995, when ENGLAND meet COLOMBIA at old Wembley Stadium for a friendly match, he saved one of the shots by performing a scorpion kick, that was simply genius!!!

He was an entertainer for sure......but somehow i always remember him for his goofup against Cameroon in the 1990 WC where he tried to outdribble Roger Milla, and instead lost it, and conversely Milla scored!!

The goalie s name was HIGUITA and he was
from Colombia. He used to call that kick the Scorpion
