I've noticed that when I approach a person I loose words and I forget what to say. Like "Hi my name is (___) and I'm an Avon rep. Avon is a company.... would you be interested in looking at these brochures? This is the latest Campaign, 17".
Eh-hem. So it gets confusing. Any ideas... like should I start telling them about the main top sellers etc. Something that will get their attention and make them want to at least look through the Campaign!? Thanks :)

Check with local hair salons and see if you can leave your sales
brochures there each time it changes. Not too many. Make sure
your card is attached with your number for them to call.

Carry samples, people like to try things first. Colognes especially.

Try to set up at little church bazaars and sales, to display and
sell merchandise.

Getting started is very hard. But keep it up. Be sure to only consider it spending money not a living.

You need to come up with a way to reveal the most amount of information with the smallest amount of time, without losing your customers interest. How do you do that? Well that's the hard part because every person you approach is going to react differently. So you'll have to observe them carefully. If this is your first sales/marketing job, I will tell you now you're going to have a lot of bad days. But that is all for experience.
one thing I'll say "Hi my name is ___ and I'm an Avon rep. Avon is a company..." Do not say "Avon is a company". Just say "We are a company", they already know you are with Avon, saying "We" will create accountability in their eyes because you are creating a single entity with you an Avon to them. Don't sound all robotic and routine. You don't have to introduce yourself in the beginning, just make sure you get out the fact that you are with avon and what product you are trying to sell them. Once you catch their attention and they are interested then introduce yourself and go one with the formalities.

Why not start simple. Have a party. You invite friends, family members and then with this more receptive audience pitch them on Avon. From there you can go to colder prospects like strangers but you may want to have an internet or mail campaign to see who is interested. Who buys your products? Get a list of those people likely to buy, spend money on marketing and approach those people indirectly and have them contact you. Rather than cold calling.

Good Luck

Start with a compliment to break the ice. "Your eyes are beautiful! You've chosen just the right shade shadow to compliment the color. My name is ____ and I am an AVON representative. We are having a color sale and I would like to offer you a brocure for campaign ___ since you seem to have such a great eye for color. We also have some great lipglosses that would show off the great shape of your mouth." You get the picture.

I use to be a rep. when I was about 19, but I usually sold to people I knew. I would let them hold some brochures for a day or two, and then I would pick them up and take their orders. I was to shy to go up to strangers.

In my area you do not come up to people to try and sell your product, or give away a brochure, it just isn't legal in PA. They are allowed to place brochures in mailboxes or front doors.
