Get rid of your email address or send all your mail to bulk and delete it as soon as it comes in without looking at it.
Spam email will always be around because as soon as a system comes up to defeat it they modify the system.

I suggest that if you don't want the biggest part of Spam email that you use a disposable email address when you order or buy things that you don't mind changing from time to time and only give your private email to your immediate friends and family and tell them not to bulk mail your address out to others. That is how a lot of spam gets started by people clicking a group name and mailing jokes and things out.

This is going to take some time, but the following things worked for me:

Trace the IP addresses and forward the SPAM to the provider. You can use a WHOIS inquiry. You can get the IP address from the full headers.

Opt-out (usually doesn't work)

Use your filters (if you have any available). At work, we use Outlook, so I can't see the headers. I set up 2 Rules which filters out all SPAM.

Run spyware or a similar software once a week to get rid spyware, which can contribute to SPAM.

If the SPAM is to something physical, call them up and cuss them out!

The above methods work, but they are very time consuming, and you have to be persistent. I did this for Yahoo! mail, which is my primary account. I get maybe 1 SPAM a week in my inbox, the rest goes to bulk. I gave up trying with Hotmail and Mail.com. My SBCGlobal is crazy.

If I can remember anything else, I'll post it.

Oh, with Yahoo!, use their SPAM button, it works. You will have to check your Bulk folder every so oten to make sure valid emails didn't go there (mail from Craig's List or Overstock.com).

People above suggested getting a new email address. Depending on the provider, you will get SPAM. My SBC mailbox was FULL of SPAM in 2 weeks when I first got it last year.

You cannot get rid of SPAM with the email addresses you already have because the spammers are making too much MONEY and there is no legal consequences to their actions. Your email address is harvested and sold and resold, and it just gets worse because your filters do not work properly and you will NEVER get off their lists even after you die.

The only way to get rid of spam is with a disposable email address or addresses. There are paid and free disposable email address services. I use several free ones, www.spamgourmet.com , www.jetable.org , www.kasmail.com and I am now trying out a new one called Gish Puppy http://www.gishpuppy.com/index.html . Of course there are others.

Each one has various numbers of emails you can create and are different on how they expire, so use the one that works for you. Whenever you give out an email address you can now give out a disposable one and shield your real email address. So open up a new "clean" email address and give out only disposable email addresses so your new address stays clean from SPAM. You can thank me later for this advice.

At the bottom of most spam is fine print with a link that reads, "unsubscribe". Click that link, it should work. DO NOT GET A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS. Also, get a new address for promotions, stuff like that. Belive me, once I received 347 spam emails in 24 hours, you don't want to make the mistake I did... lol

I had 87 spam mails and I sent them all to spam. Then like a week went by and I had over 2,000. Plus people calling my cell phone. One guy wanted me to check out this Made Big site and said that I could work for myself getting other consumers to check out the site etc etc. I couldn't tell if he wuz for real or not. I went to the site and they even had a five star hotel reserved. I called and the hotel confirmed it and everything. When I asked the guy to give me the presidents email address that he bragged about having he never called back. People are real good at scheming. I think spam is a scheme too!

Do not have an e-mail account. Otherwise you need to get really good spam filtering software, preferably on the mail server and not your pc. I use Spam Assasin to mark spam and have outlook automatically move the spam to a folder marked as such. My spam in my inbox is almost non-existant except for my adelphia which does not offer any server based filtering.

I dont know how many u r getting a day but if it's only 5-6 try this when u get a spam email put it in your "blocked senders list".
Spam senders have a trick they use, by changing a letter in their address eg- f they can bypass "blocked senders list" & u have to enter their new address into that list again.
If it's reallybad take the advise of the majority of answers & get a new email address.

Everybody's misleading you.

Now look here for Professional Help.

1. Keep on reporting the Spam mails as Spam to your Service Provider.
2. The best is to Creat Filter for Incoming mails and allow mails only from the addresses you recognize as your contacts.

I guess there is no a generic way to avoid this. Fortunately, most of the email service provider now have offered a filtering functionality, by which you could categorize the mails you get. with this, what you need to do is just to clean up certain folders periodically. Some email provider, like Yahoo, provides spaming report feature, you just need to report once and they don't come to harass you any more.

You can't actually stop it. However, depending on the provide you are using you can prevent it from getting to you. For example, COMCAST.NET allows you to set up filtering of emails. You can do this multiple ways. One of the options is to only allow certain emails or certain domains through. This requires time to set up but by entering all of the allowable emails in you only get emails from those sources. It does send you an email if something arrives from an unknown source so that you can decide if you want to let it through.

There are also companies out there that provide this service for a cost.
