Is the world really about to end? Why all these bad things happening? How do we prepare ourselves if it is?

Oh, probably not. There really isn't anything going on right now that is actually threatening the destruction of mankind. The only real threat is a large asteroid destroying the Earth. Scientific models show that no asteroid is going to do that for at least the next 100 years. There is no asteroid close enough right now to do that for the time being. Plus, in 2010 with NASA's moon ship, and some new technology, we will eventually be able to survive on the moon and create our own oxygen. Now, if this question is coming from that History Channel episode on the Apocalypse airing like every night for the past month, that's silly. If the threat of the bird flu, some tsunamis, hurricanes, and the Israeli-Hezbollah crisis is causing you to believe that the end of the world is near, you're being unreasonable. If the world is going to end, you cannot possibly know when. And there is no reason to prepare yourself for anything anyway. You won't feel it. And if the unlikely scenario is true - that we are judged by some alien guy (God), then you will be judged for how to have lived. But there is no reason to worry about any of that. Hopefully, you have lived a good, moral life and you will have nothing to worry about. If not, you cannot worry about things you can't control. Plus, our authoritarian despot for a God is judging people with no opportunity for appeal, no right to a fair trial, or right to a defense, and it is not based on a jury of our peers. If God exists, he is really violating everything which we humans have come to know on this planet such as Democracy or Justice or Morality. That is NOT to say therefore, he cannot exist, but that is to say that therefore, the theory about Hell and how if you don't believe in Him, that you will have to go there with some devil guy and some fires CANNOT be true. That's just silly. So how do you prepare? YOU DON'T. Just live life correctly and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And have fun. And stop worrying. It is a good question, but the fact that you asked it tells me that you are concerned about the end of the world. Jesus will not come now and end the world if he exists. We have come so far. We are well on our way to world peace and happiness. He wouldn't end it. Plus, if He has paid any attention, he would realize that religion has caused more problems that it is worth. I said RELIGION, not BELIEF. Religion has caused cults that starve babies, the Crusades, the Israeli-Arab crisis which is unnecessary, the Vatican opposing condoms causing AIDS deaths, scientists being killed when they claim the Earth is NOT the center of the universe and that it rotates around the sun, not the other way around. ETC.


My point is everyone should believe whatever they want, not impose it on others, and be TOLERANT of other beliefs. If the Muslims were tolerant of the Jews, noone would be fighting in the Middle East. The Sunnis and Shi'as would get along in Iraq, Hezbollah would not be rocketing Israel. It's simple. TOLERANCE is the key to world peace.

let me put it in this way, just like dinosaurs ruled during a certain period, in the similar manner we human are doing. but one day just like dinos we too will have to face extinction. the proof of this is the alarmingly increasing diseases(bird flu and stuff like this). thus the answer is quite clear.

if the world were truly going to end...there's nothing you can do. live well, have fun, pray if you choose, but in the end there ain't nothing you or I can do to stop it. peace.
