Sir Winston Churchill said: "A preposition is a terrible thing to end a sentence with.", which I think says it all. For whatever reason, it is technically grammatically incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition BUT, sometimes avoiding ending a sentence with a preposition "at all costs" results in a construction so convoluted as to be unintelligible.

Is a preposition the correct "thing" with which to end a sentence" No, but you could change it thus, "is a preposition the correct thing to end a sentence with, f........?"

according to the rules i was taught in school, it's bad grammar, but because everybody seems to do it, i don't think anyone would think badly of you . . . anyone who matters, anyway. some sentences make very little sense unless you end them with a preposition, like that winston churchill quote. so don't worry too much about it, unless you're in school and you're teacher's really picky, or you're trying to sound super-formal.

People think it is incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition but it is not. It is perfectly acceptable. It becomes incorrect when unnecessary prepositions are used. m
